Having known each other for so many years and having played in numerous groups together backing up countless soloists, Hans Vroomans, Marcel Serierse and Frans van Geest thought it was about time to record some trio music just by themselves in Marcel’s home studio. Four recording dates resulted in an album which they decided to dedicate to the simple yet universal concept of love.

Hans Vroomans – Piano (August 28, 1961, The Hague, The Netherlands)

received his music education at the conservatories of The Hague and Rotterdam in the Netherlands and in New York City with Jim McNeely at New York University. He is the principle pianist of the famous Metropole Orkest of the Netherlands, performing and recording with Al Jarreau, Ivan Lins, Kurt Elling, John Scofield and countless others. He is a regular guest with the NDR Big Band in Hamburg, Germany and has been pianist and musical director for singer Laura Fygi for many years, producing two of her albums; ‘The Latin Touch’ and ‘Live at Ronnie Scott’s’. Hans can be heard on countless recordings such as with the Metropole Orkest: ‘Perfect Vision, The Esquivel Sound’ (Basta, 2103) and with Brazilian bassist/composer/singer Alfredo Paixão: ‘Rodamoinho’ (Maanstrand, 2012).

Previously recorded cd’s under his own name: Solo: ‘Jazz at the Pinehill’ (Challenge, 2000) and Three in One (trio): ‘We Love Music’ (Rigg, 1992) Hans is on the faculty of the jazz department at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

Frans van Geest – Bass (May 24, 1968, Huntington, USA)

After his studies at the Hilversum Conservatory in the Netherlands Frans became the co-founder and bassist with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. As such Frans has shared the stage with Joe Lovano, Chick Corea, George Duke, Elvin Jones, Monty Alexander and many others. As one of Holland’s hardest swinging bass players Frans is in high demand both on the stage as well as in recordings. He has toured with the Metropole Orkest, The Skymasters Big Band and is a steady member of the Martijn van Iterson Quartet and ‘The Ghost, the King and I’ with pianist Rob van Bavel. Frans can be heard on recordings alongside guitarists Martijn van Iterson and Jesse van Ruller, Till Brönner and Rob van Bavel, such as The Ghost, the King and I: ‘Trilogy’ (Daybreak Music, 2011), Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw: ‘Blues for the Date’ (Challenge, 2010)

He is on the faculty of the Rotterdam Conservatory/Codarts.

Marcel Serierse – Drums (July 16, 1962, Rotterdam, The Netherlands)

Marcel completed his formal music education in Holland at the Rotterdam Conservatory and in New York City with Steve Gadd and Mel Lewis. He has established himself as one of Holland’s busiest and most versatile drummers, both live and in the studio. Over the years he has performed with Jimmy Heath, Ronnie Cuber, Randy Brecker, Bob Brookmeyer, Johnny Griffin, Michel Petrucciani, just to name a few. Marcel is a regular guest drummer with the NDR Big Band in Hamburg, Germany and is a member of the Ilja Reijngoud Quartet, the Equinox Quintet, and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. For years he has been the steady drummer behind singer Laura Fygi. He has recorded with Leonardo Amuedo: ‘Duo Conversation’ (Cris Crazz, 2002), the Ilja Reijngoud Group: ‘Around the world’ (Challenge, 2012) and the Equinox Quintet: ‘Face the music’ (2013), just to name a few. Marcel is on the faculty at the Jazz dept. of the Conservatory of Amsterdam
